Laboratory assay overview

Up to 90 percent of children with asthma have underlying allergies that trigger their asthma [1,2]. Many things like environmental and food elements can trigger allergic reactions in children. Specific IgE serological tests aid in the diagnosis of allergic disease. In this profile, when a whole allergen protein extract is found to be positive, the respective component panel, which uses individual recombinant or purified proteins, is automatically run. Component panels improve specificity, provide the clinician with more detailed information for assessing level of risk, and help target effective management. 1. Allen-Ramey F, et al. LOINC
102282-1, 6098-8

Laboratory assay overview

Like respiratory allergies, animal allergies pose a significant risk for the development of asthma and rhinitis. Blood IgE tests using whole allergen extracts from dogs provide a sensitive screening method to diagnose pet sensitization. In addition, the dog dander component panel is an IgE blood test using individual recombinant proteins from dogs, improving specificity compared to animal extract assays. Thus, the dog dander component panel helps differentiate an actual dog allergy from a cross-reactive pet allergy.

Laboratory assay overview

This panel tests for specific IgE antibodies to 22 food and environmental allergens commonly associated with childhood allergies. A positive test result only indicates that a patient is sensitized to the allergen of concern. A diagnosis of allergy should only be made by a medical provider after conducting a clinical evaluation. In this panel, when a whole allergen extract is found to be positive, component testing (which uses individual recombinant or purified proteins) is automatically performed and reported. Component testing may help manage patients with suspected allergy.

Laboratory assay overview

Up to 90 percent of children and 60 percent of adults with asthma have underlying allergies that trigger their asthma [1,2]. Commonly, these allergies are to trees, grasses, molds, and animals. Allergy respiratory IgE blood tests aid in the diagnosis of allergic diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, atopic dermatitis, and urticaria. In this panel, when whole allergen dog/cat protein extract is found to be positive, the dog and/or cat dander component panel, which uses individual recombinant proteins from dogs and cats, is automatically run since this improves specificity compared to animal extract assays and helps differentiate an actual dog and/or cat allergy from a cross-reactive pet allergy. 1.

1. Allen-Ramey F, et al. J Am Board Fam Pract 2005;18(5):434-439. 2. Host A, Halken S. Allergy 2000;55:600-608.

1. Verify these ranges and sources

We compile every detail above directly from named laboratory directories and published clinical studies. Laboratories calculate standard reference intervals from the statistical distribution of tested populations for a specific assay method and demographic group, rather than setting universal optimal targets.

Always review your personal lab results with a licensed clinician, or track your lab history and health goals in Aumnivida.
