Laboratory assay overview

Urinary Porphobilinogen is the first step in the diagnosis of acute porphyrias such as acute intermittent porphyria (AIP). AIP is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by deficiency of porphobilinogen deaminase. An acute attack usually includes gastrointestinal disturbance and neuropsychiatric disorders.

Laboratory assay overview

Porphyria is a group of distinct disorders characterized by the abnormal accumulation of porphyrins or porphyrin precursors. Porphyrin Fractionation of Urine is useful in diagnosing porphyrin cutanea tarda, hereditary coproporphyria, and variegate porphyria.

Verify these ranges and sources

We compile every detail above directly from named laboratory directories and published clinical studies. Laboratories calculate standard reference intervals from the statistical distribution of tested populations for a specific assay method and demographic group, rather than setting universal optimal targets.

Always review your personal lab results with a licensed clinician, or track your lab history and health goals in Aumnivida.
