- Method
- Electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) This assay is performed on the Roche cobas instrument in multiple laboratories throughout Labcorp.
- Collection
- ACTH should be drawn between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Collect into iced lavender-top (EDTA) tube, noting time of collection. Centrifuge immediately after collection1,2 and transfer plasma into a Labcorp PP transpak frozen purple tube with screw cap (Labcorp No. 49482). Freeze immediately and maintain frozen until tested. Contact Labcorp's supply department for special tubes. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
- Reference notes
- 7.2−63.3 pg/mL (Note: For samples collected between 7 AM and 10 AM)

- Preparation
- ACTH measurement is not recommended for patients who have been administered cosyntropin (ACTH(1-24)) because the results may be falsely elevated or depressed
- Collection
- Collect specimens between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. If drawn during any other time, the reference ranges do not apply. Only use pre-chilled EDTA tube. After drawing the blood, put the tube immediately on ice. Centrifuge immediately to separate the plasma. Plasma should be transferred to a pre-chilled plastic transport container and frozen immediately.

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
