Ranges
Each lab publishes a reference range for the population groups it tests, usually the middle 95% of results. These intervals describe that population, not an optimal or healthy target. How ranges differ
Quest Diagnostics, Delta Aminolevulinic Acid, Random Urine 6301
| Population | Interval |
|---|---|
| 1-8 Years | 2.3-6.2 mg/g creat |
| 9-17 Years | 1.5-5.3 mg/g creat |
| ≥18 Years Male | <1.8 mg/g creat |
| ≥18 Years Female | <5.4 mg/g creat |

- Collection
- On collection of random urine, it is advisable not to use first voided morning specimen, late evening specimen after 8 p.m. or specimen obtained following excessive fluid intake. pH must be <7. Transfer the urine into a Labcorp amber plastic frozen transport tube with amber cap (Labcorp No. 78656). Label the container with the patient's name and date. The specimen should be frozen immediately and maintained frozen until tested. (If amber tube and cap are not available, cover a clear plastic transport tube completely from top to bottom with aluminum foil. Identify the specimen with the patient's name directly on the transport tube and the outside of the aluminum foil. Secure with tape.) To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
