Ranges

Each lab publishes a reference range for the population groups it tests, usually the middle 95% of results. These intervals describe that population, not an optimal or healthy target. How ranges differ

Labcorp 1 test

Single-analyte tests

  • C-Telopeptide (Endocrine Sciences) 500089

    Serum · Fasting not stated · Turnaround 3 - 5 days

    Method and collection
    Method
    Electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA)
    Collection
It is recommended to draw blood as fasting, morning samples. Samples should not be taken from patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (i.e. >5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours following the last biotin administration. Separate serum from cells within 45 minutes of collection. Transfer specimen to a plastic transport tube before freezing. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested .

Serum · Fasting required · Turnaround Set up: Tues, Thurs, Sat; Report available: 4 days

    Method and collection
    Method
    Immunoassay (IA)
    Preparation
A minimum of 12 hours fasting is required. Fasting morning collection 8-10 am (Diurnal variations cause elevated levels at night). Dietary supplements containing biotin may interfere in assays and may skew results to be either falsely high or falsely low. For patients receiving the recommended daily doses of biotin, draw samples at least 8 hours following the last biotin supplementation. For patients on mega-doses of biotin supplements, draw samples at least 72 hours following the last biotin supplementation.
    Collection
Allow blood to clot (30-60 minutes) at room temperature. Centrifuge and separate the serum from the cells and transfer serum to a clean transport tube. Freeze as soon as possible.

Verify these ranges and sources

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
