Ranges

Each lab publishes a reference range for the population groups it tests, usually the middle 95% of results. These intervals describe that population, not an optimal or healthy target. How ranges differ

Panels that include this biomarker

  • Catecholamines, Fractionated, Supine, Plasma 16381

    4 analytes · Plasma · Fasting not stated · Turnaround Set up: Mon-Fri (p.m.)

    Method and collection
    Method
    Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS)
    Preparation
Overnight fasting is preferred. Patients should be relaxed in a supine position before blood is drawn. States of anxiety and stress can cause fluctuations in the catecholamine levels. Patient should avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco and strenuous exercise prior to collection.
    Collection
Draw specimen in a pre-chilled green-top vacutainer. Plasma should be separated in a refrigerated centrifuge within 30 minutes of collection and then frozen immediately at -20° C in plastic vials. Each specimen will be invoiced separately.
    Reference notes
    Epinephrine <18 years | Not established ≥18 years | <58 pg/mL Norepinephrine <18 years | Not established ≥18 years | 149-564 pg/mL Dopamine <18 years | Not established ≥18 years | <16 pg/mL Catecholamines, Total <18 years | Not established ≥18 years | <632 pg/mL

Verify these ranges and sources

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
