Ranges
Each lab publishes a reference range for the population groups it tests, usually the middle 95% of results. These intervals describe that population, not an optimal or healthy target. How ranges differ

- Method
- Nucleic acid amplification (NAA)
- Collection
- Remove pus or discharge from the eye. Do not use the white-shafted swab; discard this swab. Using the blue-shafted swab, labeled "unisex collection swab," thoroughly swab the lower, then the upper conjunctiva, two to three times. Remove the cap from the swab specimen transport tube, and immediately place the specimen collection swab into the transport tube. Carefully break the swab shaft at the scoreline; use care to avoid splashing the contents. Recap the swab specimen transport tube tightly.

- Transcription-Mediated Amplification (TMA)
- Collection
- Specimens must be collected using an Aptima Multi-Test collection kit (orange label), Aptima Unisex Swab specimen collection Kit (white label), or UTM or VCM. To ensure collection of an adequate specimen, epithelial cells lining the conjunctiva should be obtained. To that effect, a cleaning swab should be used to remove and discard excess mucus prior to specimen collection. Submit one swab per collection tube. Note: Results from the Aptima Combo 2 Assay should be interpreted in conjunction with other laboratory and clinical data available to the clinician. The Aptima Combo 2 Assay is not intended for the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse or for other medico-legal indications. For a complete list of assay limitations we recommend that you review the manufacturers package insert, https://www.hologic.com/package-inserts/diagnostic-products/aptima-combo-2-assay-ctng

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
