Labcorp catalog pageMethod and collection
- Method
- Inductively-coupled plasma/mass spectrometry (ICP/MS)
- Collection
- Sampling time is end of shift at end of work week. Metals with timing “end of shift at end of work week” (meaning four or five consecutive working days with exposure) are eliminated with half-lives longer than five hours. Such metals accumulate in the body during the work week; therefore, their timing is critical in relation to previous exposures. Optional protocol: Instruct the patient to void at 8 AM and discard the specimen. Then collect all urine including the final specimen voided at the end of the 24-hour collection period (ie, 8 AM the next morning). Avoid contact with metal during collection. Screw the lid on securely.
- Reference notes
- • Environmental exposure: 1.0−2.0 μg/L; <2.0 μg/g creatinine • Occupational exposure: BEI® (sampling time is end of shift at end of work week): 15.0 μg/L1

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
