What the laboratory says this test is for

When intravascular thrombosis is suspected in the absence of overt clinical symptoms, elevation in D-dimer, fibrin monomer, prothrombin fragment 1.2, or thrombin-antithrombin complex may be the only indicator of intravascular clot formation and generation of activated factor X. Marked elevation in only 1 or 2 of these markers should lead to further investigation of the site of the thrombosis (eg, early dissecting aortic aneurysm, anomalous arterial/venous fistula).

What the laboratory says this test is for

The Fibrin monomer assay is a qualitative test for the detection of soluble fibrin monomers in plasma. Fibrin monomers are an intermediate product of thrombin proteolysis of fibrinogen. With disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) there is an excess of thrombin generation and therefore detectable levels of soluble fibrin monomer. This test may be used in combination with other markers (platelet count, fibrinogen level, D-dimer) and the clinical scenario to determine the presence of DIC.

What the laboratory says this test is for

An increase in PAI-1 antigen is associated with an increased risk for post-operative venous thrombosis, myocardial infarction, and (probably) stroke. A severe deficiency of alpha-2 antiplasmin or PAI-1 antigen has been associated with bleeding. A shortened euglobulin lysis time correlates with a severe deficiency of alpha-2 antiplasmin or PAI-1 antigen. Elevations in fibrin monomer, fibrinogen degradation products, and D-dimer usually indicate vascular thrombosis (mainly venous) but are also associated with malignancy and infection. Conversely, a normal D-dimer and/or negative fibrin monomer suggests the absence of deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary emboli. Marked reduction in plasminogen has been associated with a prothrombotic state, and an elevated TPA level is a risk marker of coronary artery disease.

Everything above is drawn from the named sources and shown as they published it. Reference ranges belong to the laboratory that issued them and the population it named; they are not a universal normal.
