Panels that include this biomarker

  • α-Fetoprotein (AFP), Amniotic Fluid 002428

    3 analytes · Amniotic fluid · Fasting not stated · Turnaround 2 - 5 days

    Method and collection
    Method
    Chemiluminescent immunoassay
    Preparation
The patient should have undergone ultrasound studies to verify fetal viability, detect multiple gestation, confirm gestational age, localize placenta and detect fetal and uterine pathology.
    Collection
Avoid contamination of amniotic fluid with maternal or fetal blood. As little as one drop of fetal blood can cause false-positive results during assay of amniotic fluid. Amniotic fluid should be collected by the attending physician.

  • α-Fetoprotein (AFP), AChE, Amniotic Fluid With Reflex to Fetal Hemoglobin (Hb F) 510305

    4 analytes · Amniotic fluid · Fasting not stated · Turnaround 4 - 10 days

    Method and collection
    Method
Chemiluminescent immunoassay; acrylamide gel electrophoresis; isoelectric focusing
    Preparation
The patient should have undergone ultrasound studies to verify fetal viability, detect multiple gestation, confirm gestational age, localize placenta and detect fetal and uterine pathology.

  • Chromosome Analysis and AFP, Amniotic Fluid 510185

    7 analytes · Amniotic fluid · Fasting not stated · Turnaround 10 - 14 days

    Method and collection
    Method
Chromosome analysis: in situ cell culturing of amniocytes for the investigation of numerical and/or structural chromosome abnormalities; chemiluminescent immunoassay for AFP
    Collection
Discard first 2 mL of fluid aspirated to avoid maternal cell contamination. Specimen is collected in a 20 mL sterile syringe and transfer aseptically to sterile tubes. Remove needle from syringe after collection. The test request form is completed and accompanies specimen and miscellaneous slip to the laboratory. Samples from twin (multiple) pregnancies should be appropriately labeled and placed in separate transport containers with a separate request form for each twin. Rubber stopper and/or frozen specimen cannot be processed.

Panels that include this biomarker

  • Acetylcholinesterase 4929

2 analytes · 1.5 mL amniotic fluid collected in a sterile transport tube · Fasting not stated · Turnaround Set up: Mon, Wed, Fri (a.m.); Report available: 4 days

    Method and collection
    Method
    Gel Electrophoresis
    Collection
Collect in a sterile transport tube. Indicate gestational age, collection date, clinical indication, and the AFP and MOM results, if available, on the test requisition. Note: This test is automatically performed on all Alpha-Fetoprotein amniotic fluids when the Mom is greater than 1.99.

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
