  • Hepatitis B Surface Antibody, Qualitative 006395

    Serum · Fasting not stated · Turnaround 1 - 2 days

    Method and collection
    Method
    Immunochemiluminometric assay (ICMA)
    Collection
If tube other than a gel-barrier tube is used, transfer separated serum to a screw-cap polypropylene transport tube. Do not freeze gel-barrier tube (pour off serum first).
    Reference notes
    • Nonreactive: not immune to HBV infection • Equivocal: unable to determine if anti-HBs is present at levels consistent with immunity • Reactive: anti-HBs concentration detected at greater than 10 mIU/mL; individual is considered to be immune to infection with HBV

Two samples must be submitted. HBsAg, anti-HBs, anti-HBc Total: If tube other than a gel-barrier tube is used, transfer separated serum to a plastic transport tube. HBV DNA: Centrifuge sample within 24 hours of collection. Transfer serum/plasma to a screw-cap polypropylene transport tube. Ship frozen (preferred). Plasma from a PPT can be frozen in situ. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit a separate frozen specimen for each test requested.

Dietary supplements containing biotin may interfere in assays and may skew analyte results to be either falsely high or falsely low. For patients receiving the recommended daily doses of biotin, draw samples at least 8 hours following the last biotin supplementation. For patients on mega-doses of biotin supplements, draw samples at least 72 hours following the last biotin supplementation.

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
