Ranges

Each lab publishes a reference range for the population groups it tests, usually the middle 95% of results. These intervals describe that population, not an optimal or healthy target. How ranges differ

Labcorp 1 test

Panels that include this biomarker

  • Tay-Sachs Disease, Biochemical 510412

    2 analytes · Serum · Fasting not stated · Turnaround 4 - 14 days

    Method and collection
    Method
Determination of enzymatic activity using heat inactivation
    Collection
Separate serum from cells within 30 minutes of collection. Transfer specimen to a plastic transport tube before freezing. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested .

If females wish screening for carrier status of Hexosaminidase A Deficiency, they must be tested prior to pregnancy. If the female is pregnant, we strongly suggest that her mate be tested for carrier status. Positive (or ambiguous) findings in the mate indicate a second order test on the female with leukocyte preparations. Refer to 16330 (Mayo code NAGR) Hexosaminidase A and Total, Leukocytes/Molecular Reflex or 34842 (Mayo code NAGW) Hexosaminidase A and Total Hexosaminidase, Leukocytes for carrier detection and diagnosis of Tay-Sachs disease. Note: Serum assay results are often ambiguous on pregnant females and will not be run. New York state clients: Informed consent is required. Please document on the request form or electronic order that a copy is on file.

Verify these ranges and sources

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
