Ranges
Each lab publishes a reference range for the population groups it tests, usually the middle 95% of results. These intervals describe that population, not an optimal or healthy target. How ranges differ
Quest Diagnostics, Legionella DNA, Qualitative, Real-Time PCR 15062
| Population | Interval |
|---|---|
| Legionella species | Not detected |
| Legionella pneumophila | Not detected |
Tests
Check the catalog code, specimen, method and preparation for every test that measures Legionella species and Legionella pneumophila. Select up to five tests to compare them side by side.

- Throat, nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs: Use sterile vials containing 3 mL of sterile VCM, M4, or equivalent (UTM) media. If using swabs, use only sterile dacron or rayon swabs. Do not use calcium alginate swabs, as they may contain substances that inhibit PCR testing. Break applicator sticks off near the tip to permit tightening of the cap.

Verify these ranges and sources
We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
