Labcorp 2 tests

Single-analyte tests

  • Group B Streptococcus Colonization Detection, NAA 188132

    Swab · Fasting not stated · Turnaround 1 - 2 days

    Method and collection
    Method
Selective broth enrichment culture and real-time PCR
    Collection
Collection of both a vaginal and rectal swab specimen is strongly recommended. Swab the lower vagina (vaginal introitus), followed by the rectum (i.e., insert swab through the anal sphincter) using the same swab. Move swab from side to side, or rotate the swab at the collection site, allowing several seconds for absorption of organisms by the swab. Cervical, perianal, perirectal, or perineal specimens are not acceptable, and a speculum should not be used for culture collection.

Single-analyte tests

  • Streptococcus Group B DNA, PCR with Broth Enrichment 91768

Swab · Fasting not stated · Turnaround Set up: Mon-Fri a.m.; Report available: 2-5 days

    Method and collection
    Method
Culture Enhanced • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
    Collection
In order to obtain an adequate specimen, the procedure for specimen collection must be followed closely. Using recommended swab, vaginal-rectal specimens are collected according to the following procedure: 1. Wipe away excessive amount of secretion or discharge from the vaginal area. 2. Carefully insert the swab into the lower one-third part of vagina, and sample secretions from the mucosa. 3. Carefully insert the same swab, approximately 2.5 cm beyond the anal sphincter, and gently rotate to sample anal crypts. 4. Replace the swab in its container. Note: Endocervical, perianal, perineal and perirectal are not to be used for this test, and a speculum should not be used for culture collection.

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
