Ranges

Each lab publishes a reference range for the population groups it tests, usually the middle 95% of results. These intervals describe that population, not an optimal or healthy target. How ranges differ

    Method and collection
    Method
    Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry
    Collection
Collect venous blood in 2 separate EDTA (lavender-top) tubes (4 mL in each tube). Ship at 2-8° C (refrigerated) within 24 hours of collection. Blood is collected prior to azathioprine (Imuran) or 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP, Purinethol) therapy for screening purposes. The draw time is at physician's discretion.

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
