Panels that include this biomarker

  • AspirinWorks® (11-Dehydro Thromboxane B2) 117320

    3 analytes · Urine · Fasting not stated · Turnaround 4 - 9 days

    Method and collection
    Method
Enzyme-linked immunoassay AspirinWorks® is a registered trademark of Corgenix Medical Corp, Broomfield, CO.
    Collection
    1. Instruct the patient to collect at least 10 mL of urine in the urine collection cup. 2. Transfer at least 5 mL of urine into a BD C&S Vacutainer® tube or BD UAP Vacutainer® tube as soon as possible after collection. 3. Cap and mix by gentle inversion. 4. Transfer the contents of the BD C&S Vacutainer® tube or BD UAP Vacutainer® tube to a PP transpack frozen purple tube. Apply appropriate screw cap and freeze immediately. Maintain frozen during transport.
    Reference notes
Result less or equal to 1500 pg 11dhTxB2 per mg creatinine in a patient on aspirin therapy is consistent with a healthy population responsive to aspirin. If the patient is not on chronic aspirin therapy, the patient may have taken an as−needed aspirin or another aspirin−like platelet suppressing agent, such as omega-3 fatty acids or green tea extract. If the patient is on aspirin therapy, a urinary level above 1500 pg 11dhTxB2/mg creatinine suggests an inadequate response to aspirin. This result is in the range of response that would be expected in an individual not on aspirin therapy. A limitation of this assay for determining aspirin response is extra-platelet sources of TXA2 (e.g., monocytes, macrophages). Unlike platelets, monocytes and macrophages can synthesize new cyclooxygenase following its inhibition by aspirin. This likely contributes significantly to the pool of TXA2 and therefore to the pool of metabolites such as 11dhTxB2, especially in those individuals with a high monocyte/macrophage burden.

  • AspirinWorks® 11-Dehydrothromboxane B2 (11-dhTXB2) with Creatinine 16174

3 analytes · Urine · Fasting not stated · Turnaround Set up: Mon-Fri

    Method and collection
    Method
Calculation (CALC) • Enzymatic • Immunoassay (IA)
    Collection
Recommend using BD C&S Vacutainer tube for collection (Quest Supply #141974). If urine is not collected in the preferred or alternative specimen tubes, it must be poured off into these tubes within 4 hours of collection. It is not recommended to test individuals suffering from urinary tract infections, severe liver disease, or end stage renal disease. Limitations: Test results may be affected by the ingestion of alcohol, green tea extract, chocolate, omega-3 fatty acids, ibuprofen, statins, or COX-2 inhibitors. Testing should not be performed on individuals suffering from urinary tract infections, severe liver disease or end stage renal disease. It is not known how treatment with oral anticoagulants, glycoprotein llb/llla inhibitors, clopidogrel, or heparin will affect test results. Additional Information: It is important to interpret the results with regard to patient history and lifestyle, in particular medications and supplements, as well as other risk factors. The test should not be used to measure return of platelet function after discontinuation of aspirin therapy.

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
