Ranges
Each lab publishes a reference range for the population groups it tests, usually the middle 95% of results. These intervals describe that population, not an optimal or healthy target. How ranges differ

| Population | Interval |
|---|---|
| Cortisol Baseline | 5-21 mcg/dL |
| Cortisol 15 minutes | 13-30 mcg/dL |
| Cortisol 30 minutes | 14-36 mcg/dL |
| Cortisol 60 minutes | 14-41 mcg/dL |

- Draw morning baseline specimen. Administer 250 mcg Cortrosyn. Draw additional specimens at 15, 30 and 60 minutes. For each timed specimen submitted, each tube must be clearly marked with time drawn. Submit all tubes with one test request form. Note: Cortrosyn (cosyntropin) not supplied by the laboratory. This test cannot be collected at a Patient Service Center.

Verify these ranges and sources
We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
