  • Hemoglobinopathy Evaluation 35489

    12 analytes · 1 full (5 mL) EDTA (lavender-top) tube · Fasting not stated

    Method and collection
    Method
Electronic Sizing and Counting/Cytometry • Capillary Electrophoresis followed by, if necessary, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
    Collection
Patient age and ethnicity are necessary for proper interpretation. Blood transfusions within the last 4 months may affect results. Note: If tube drawn is shared with lead testing, trace metal-free EDTA (i.e. royal blue-top or tan-top) tube is required.

21 analytes · Serum · Fasting not stated · Turnaround Set up: Tues-Sat

    Method and collection
    Method
Electronic Sizing and Counting/Cytometry • Capillary Electrophoresis followed by, if necessary, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) • Immunochemiluminometric Assay (ICMA)
    Collection
Specimen must arrive within 72 hours of draw. Both whole blood and serum are required for this test. Whole blood Adult: Draw blood and send in three separate EDTA (lavender-top) tube(s) each containing 5 mL of whole blood (15 mL total) refrigerated. Specimen cannot be frozen. Pediatric: Draw blood and send in three separate EDTA (lavender-top) tube(s) each containing 1 mL of whole blood (3 mL total) refrigerated. Specimen cannot be frozen. Serum: Draw blood in a red-top tube (no-gel) or a serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1 mL (0.5 mL minimum) of serum refrigerated (preferred) or room temperature (acceptable). Note: 1. Patient's age and sex are required on test requisition. 2. Include recent transfusion information. 3. Label specimens appropriately (blood, serum).

We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
