- Whole blood: 1 full EDTA (lavender-top) tube. Submit at room temperature. Serum: 2 spun serum separator tubes (SST). Submit at room temperature. Note: HIV submission must remain unopened. Plasma: 2 mL plasma collected in a PPT potassium EDTA (white-top) tube or EDTA (lavender-top) tube. Separate plasma from whole blood within 24 hours of collection by centrifugation at 800-1600 X G for 20 minutes at room temperature. Transfer the plasma to a properly identified, sterile, polypropylene transport tube and ship refrigerated or frozen.

- Whole blood: 1 full EDTA (lavender-top) tube. Submit at room temperature. Serum: 1 spun serum separator tube (SST). Submit at room temperature. Plasma: Collect 2 EDTA (lavender-top) tubes. Spin and pour off into transport tubes. Submit refrigerated. Do not freeze whole blood or any samples stored in primary tube. Freshly drawn specimens (whole blood) may be stored at 2-25° C for up to 24 hours prior to centrifugation. Separate plasma from cells within 24 hours of collection by centrifugation. Follow manufacturer's instructions for collection tube handling.

Verify these ranges and sources
We compile this page from named laboratory catalogs, guidelines and studies. Labs calculate reference intervals from the people they test, for one assay method and one population group, so an interval describes that population rather than an optimal target.
